Our Sheep
When I decided that I wanted to go into sheep, I did much research into breeds both for fleece and personality. Along the way I discovered Rare Breeds Canada, and decided I would choose a breed on their priority list. After some deliberation the Border Leicester seemed the perfect choice. The rams have a reputation for being the calmest of all the breeds; the fleece is gorgeous, long for spinning, and so lustrous it can look like mohair.
At the present we have three intact purebred Border Leicester rams, two purebred ewes, two ewe lambs and a ram lamb. The rest of our sheep are BL crosses. In each case the crossing with the BL has improved the fleece noticeably.
